Symposium on Industrial Biotechnology: Microorganisms as the Key to the Circular Economy
How can waste materials be turned into new raw materials and products? This was the question addressed at the third Waste2Value symposium held at the Pirmasens Campus. Researchers, businesses and other stakeholders discussed the latest developments in industrial biotechnology and innovative approaches to achieving a sustainable circular economy.
The gait simulator: When the testing machine walks like a human
The PFI gait simulator enables realistic testing of footwear under laboratory conditions. By simulating human walking movements, durability, quality and performance can be reliably assessed.
Waste2Algae: Validation of the recovery of valuable materials using microalgae, with flue gas and waste materials, on a pilot plant scale
Microalgae as the raw material factory of the future: In the Waste2Algae project, researchers and industry are working together on innovative solutions for the bioeconomy of tomorrow.
Latest regulatory developments: What businesses should be keeping an eye on right now
Regulatory developments in the second half of 2026 are currently a focus for numerous companies in the footwear, leather, textile, plastics and packaging industries. New European and national regulations range from stricter requirements for environmental advertising and additional restrictions on harmful substances to expanded regulations on packaging.
PFI visits MICAM and LINEAPELLE in Milan
From 14 to 16 September, the PFI was represented at MICAM Milano and LINEAPELLE. As well as providing fascinating insights into current market and technology trends, the event focused on exchanges with companies, trade associations and research partners, as well as discussions on sustainability, regulation and the industry’s future challenges.
