In our accredited laboratories we analyse the chemical, physical, and microbiological properties of materials and products according to valid European and international standards. We also examine fermentation samples and substrates for biogas plant operators. Many of our test instruments and devices were developed and custom-made by our engineering department in order to apply the best possible new and individual test procedures.

Our laboratories are accredited according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.

The PFI grants various test marks based on testing in a wide range of areas. Here you will find all the test marks for which PFI is qualified.

In chemical testing, we can analyse almost all materials, substances, and products – from simple raw materials to complex compositions. In the field of physics, we test mechanical, thermal, and functional parameters to ensure the performance and durability of materials and products.

We arrange a worldwide goods and production control service:

  • Quantity control
  • Product conformity
  • Visual assessment of the manufacturing quality of finished products
  • Inspection of packaging and labelling of goods
  • Sampling for laboratory tests
  • IPC (Initial Production Check)
  • DuPro (During Production Inspection)
  • PSI (Pre Shipment Inspection)
  • FRI (Final Random Inspection)
  • SCM (Spot Check Mould)

Our highly qualified staff carry out standard chemical analysis procedures in our modern laboratory. In addition, they develop new analytical methods—also upon customer request—and provide industry, trade, and consumers with our expertise on legal regulations, potentially hazardous substances, and preventive or monitoring measures.

Standard Chemical Analysis Tests:

  • Trace analysis (REACH Annex XVII, POP Regulation)
  • Odour assessment according to SNV 195651
  • Evaluation of product marketability
  • Confirmation of the chemical safety of medical devices
  • Pollutant testing in accordance with the RoHS Directive
  • Testing according to the current SVHC list (Candidate list)
  • Comprehensive testing according to SG test criteria for Class I medical devices
  • Comprehensive testing for compliance with various certification marks, e.g., eco-label, 100% vegan, quality-tested, Blue Angel, or the Austrian eco-label
  • Comprehensive testing for compliance with German and European legislation

Specialised Testing:

  • Method development and analysis upon customer request
  • Customer-specific requirements (e.g., cads RSL)
  • Determination of content in production samples
  • Requirements for specific products (e.g., orthopaedics)
  • Counter-sample expert opinions in accordance with § 43 LFGB
  • Testing according to CPSIA Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (USA)

In our physical materials testing programme we investigate the properties of a wide range of products, materials, and components with regard to their functionality, safety, and conformity with regulatory requirements or with terms of delivery and general quality standards. In the non-standardised sector we have developed informative test procedures. Depending upon the individual requirements of our engineering department develops and builds a wide range of test devices to ensure use of the best possible methods.

  • Testing of consumer goods such as footwear, handbags, purses, and jackets with regard to delivery terms and general quality standards
  • General materials testing of leather, textiles, coated textiles, and plastics as well as accessories such as shoelaces, zip fasteners, and appliqués
  • Testing according to the requirements of the CE- and GS marks for safety, protective, and occupational footwear, firefighter and forester boots
  • Testing of hand protection
  • Leather area measurement
  • FIFA-approved football test centre (International Match Standard)

Our testing methods include tests for:

  • Wear
  • Strength
  • Permanent load deformation
  • Colour fastness
  • Ageing
  • Breathability

In our modern S 2 level safety laboratory we perform various analysis , including work with pathogens as permitted by Section 44 of the German Infection Protection Act (Infektionsschutzgesetzes, IfSG).

Our comprehensive range of services includes neutral and independent microbiological and chemical methods of analysis and assessment of various materials and products as well as microbial reduction procedures.

Microbiological studies in quality control:

  • for assessment of hygienic status
  • at monitoring points in production chains of consumer goods,
on fitments or on products
  • in assessment of the properties of materials and products
  • in medical applications

Extensive analysis programme

Using international and recognised procedures in accordance with DIN, EN, ISO, BVL/ASU, LFGB, Ph.Eu, Baumgart, DGHM, VAH, etc., we undertake tests and assessments on:

  • consumer goods
  • clothing, textiles
  • footwear and footwear materials
  • leather goods
  • plastics
  • packaging material
  • auxiliaries for the food industry
  • cleaning and care products
  • fitments
  • medical devices
  • toys
  • air samples and surfaces

for bacteria, yeasts, and microfungi by application of specific qualitative and quantitative techniques.

Our core competencies include:

  • Examination of hygiene parameters and microbiological quality
  • Studies on moulds
  • Testing of antimicrobial efficacy
