The Testing and Research Institute Pirmasens e.V. consistently applies the standards DIN EN ISO/IEC 17011, DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020, DIN EN ISO/IEC 17021, DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, and DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065 in their respective current versions. This ensures that a uniform and transparent system is in place for the assessment of the certification body, laboratories, inspection body, and prequalification body, verifying compliance with legal requirements. In doing so, mutual trust can be established. It is PFI’s stated objective to provide all customers with error-free, cost-effective services in a timely manner, ensuring full acceptance both in Germany and worldwide within the intended scope.

The Test and Research Institute Pirmasens e.V. optimises its work with the aim of covering the costs for personnel and material through revenues. The service should remain economical for the customer, without compromising the nature of the testing, certification, inspection, or pre-qualifying procedure.

The German national accreditation body DAkkS confirms that the test laboratories of the Test and Research Institute Pirmasens (Prüf- und Forschungsinstitut Pirmasens e.V.) are competent according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 to conduct tests in the following areas:

  • Chemical, physical, and mechanical-technological tests on consumer goods, footwear, materials consisting of leather, plastics, textiles, and toys
  • Tests on Personal Protective Equipment
  • Microbiological tests on consumer goods, leather, textiles, plastics, and other materials for antimicrobial properties and selected procedures for microbiological studies on consumer goods, articles of furniture, leather, and textiles

The Central Office of the Federal States for Safety Engineering (ZLS) confirms that the Test and Research Institute Pirmasens (Prüf- und Forschungsinstitut Pirmasens e.V.) is duly authorised to:

  • Conduct conformity assessments of Personal Protection Equipment according to PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425
    • Foot and leg protection
    • Hand protection
  • Award the GS Mark to products in accordance with German Product Safety Act § 20 ProdSG
