Tested for Hazardous Compounds: SG Mark
In order to protect consumers, chemical substances should only be user in such a way and in such quantities as to pose no risk to health. That is why strict attention must be paid to the correct, careful execution of production, use of suitable auxiliaries, and use of materials with minimal amounts of pollutants and hazardous substances.
The SG Mark enables manufacturers and distributors to document the superior level of care exercised in the manufacture of their product. This mark is awarded only to those products which meet the strict limit value requirements and hazardous substance parameters of the SG Test Criteria Catalogue. The SG limit values generally lie far below the legal requirements. The SG Mark is awarded exclusively by the Test and Research Institute Pirmasens. Random samples of finished products and materials that have been awarded this mark are tested annually by PFI.
The SG Mark on a product tells the consumer that a particularly high degree of care has been taken in its production. For example, that:
- Dyes which can release carcinogenic amines and chromium VI compounds cannot be detected
- The formaldehyde content lies below the declaration limit of the Cosmetics Regulation
- The amount of soluble heavy metals with a hazardous or sensitising action meets strict limit values
- No substances of very high concern (SVHC) are present in inadmissible concentrations
And that gives the consumer confidence.
The SG Mark can be awarded, for example, for:
- Footwear
- Leather
- Textiles
- Carboard
- Adhesives
- Plastics and plastic orthopaedic insoles
