Poster presentation of the S2TecKer research project at the International Textile Conference 2023

Smart textiles and wearables are on the rise, and we at PFI are also conducting extensive research in this area. Together with Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences, the ISC department presented the results of the research project "S2Tecker: Safety of shoes with electronic components in the context of the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG)" at this year's International Textile Conference.

The research project is about the reversible integration of electronics in shoes so that shoes and electronics can be disposed of separately. If this is not the case, the entire shoe is considered electronic waste, which leads to unnecessarily high disposal costs and prevents the recycling of electronic components.

The aim of the research is to provide shoe manufacturers with concrete approaches on how electronics can be integrated into shoes and implemented efficiently in compliance with the ElektroG. The integrative implementation will be realized as part of the project using three exemplary applications and manufactured as corresponding demonstration models.

With 600 regular participants from industry and science, the Aachen-Dresden-Denkendorf International Textile Conference is one of the most important textile conferences in Europe and is regarded as one of the most important platforms for exchange between management, experts and young professionals from industry and science. The industry meeting therefore offered a very good opportunity to present the results to an interested specialist audience.

Further information on the research project can be found here.

Regular project meetings are held as part of the research project, to which all interested parties are cordially invited.
