For 13 years now, Gore Footwear University has been held once or twice a year in close cooperation with the International Shoe Competence Centre (ISC). The week-long programme is aimed in particular at new Gore Footwear Associates who have not yet completed training in shoe manufacturing. This year, employees from the sales, quality and R&D departments took part – an interdisciplinary exchange that further enriched the event.
The aim of the training course is to teach participants the basics of shoe manufacturing. This includes the history of shoes, various manufacturing methods and components, and aspects of model design. In addition to theoretical insights, participants experience the individual steps of shoe production first-hand. There is a special focus on GORE-TEX®-specific content. As a practical highlight, participants will make their own shoes under the guidance of the PFI team and its trainees – from cutting and sewing techniques to completion.
At the end of this year's Gore Footwear University, the new head of the ISC department, Liselotte Vijselaar, presented the certificates to the participants – a successful conclusion to an informative and inspiring week.
The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive: particular praise was given to the professional organisation, the successful combination of theory and practice and the tangible passion of the lecturers for the subject of footwear technology. Now in its 13th year, Gore Footwear University remains an extraordinary learning experience that inspires lasting enthusiasm.
