This year, the Testing and Research Institute Pirmasens (PFI) is once again opening its doors to interested school pupils and participating in the nationwide Girls' & Boys' Day 2026.
Our goal is to give young people practical insights into real professions – from laboratory work and shoe design to office management.
Our Girls' Day offers
🔬 A day in the physics laboratory
If you enjoy experimenting, love precision and find technology exciting, then the physics laboratory is the right place for you. Here you will learn how materials are tested for stability, resilience and quality.
What you can expect:
- Conducting small physical tests
- Getting to know testing machines and measuring devices
- Preparing and documenting samples
- Insights into mechanical, abrasion, bending and hardness tests
- A feel for how science and practice work together
An ideal day for girls who enjoy researching, experimenting and understanding.
👞 A day dedicated to shoes and their manufacture
Whether you are creative, interested in craftsmanship or simply curious, this offer is perfect for anyone who wants to know how a shoe is made.
At the International Shoe Competence Centre (ISC), you can immerse yourself in the world of materials, designs and tools.
What you can expect:
- Introduction to materials used in shoe construction
- Insights into creative design processes and digital tools
- Opportunity to work on patterns and models yourself
- Practical exercises with real materials and tools
Our Boys’ Day offers
💻 A day in administration
Are you well organised, open to new ideas and keen to learn how administration works in a modern research institute?
Then this opportunity is just right for you.
What you can expect:
- Unpacking, sorting and digitally recording test samples
- Supporting day-to-day operations at headquarters
- Getting to know our internal processes and software
- Welcoming and assisting visitors – always accompanied by experienced colleagues, of course
The work is varied, communicative and gives you a realistic picture of everyday working life in office management.
