The Testing and Research Institute Pirmasens e.V. (PFI) has been an associate member of the Confédération Européenne de l’Industrie de la Chaussure (CEC) since February 2026. The Brussels-based organisation represents the interests of the European footwear industry and promotes exchange between companies, associations and research institutions at European level.
With the addition of the PFI, the CEC is expanding its network to include a technology and research centre with many years of expertise in the areas of footwear development, product testing and sustainability. The aim of the collaboration is to strengthen innovation in the European footwear industry and promote knowledge transfer between industry and research.
A special focus is placed on cooperation between technology centres within the CEC, for example in the context of a planned working group on sustainability. This is intended to support the exchange of expertise and enable joint positions on current issues relating to European regulation and industry development.
PFI Institute Director Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günter Schell sees membership as a valuable platform for professional dialogue at European level:

‘Cooperation within the CEC offers the opportunity to contribute our scientific and technical expertise more strongly to European industry initiatives while further expanding exchanges with industry and research.’
