On 30 September and 1 October, the Pirmasens Testing and Research Institute hosted a two-day workshop initiated by Cads<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>an association of companies from the footwear and leather goods industry that promotes defined standards for sustainably produced shoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 30 participants from the footwear and fashion industry took the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) method in the seminar rooms of the International Shoe Competence Centre (ISC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Rund<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The PEF method developed by the European Commission enables a standardised and scientifically sound assessment of environmental impacts throughout the entire product life cycle. The workshop focused on both political and methodological principles as well as practical applications in the footwear industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emilie Carasso from 2BPolicy presented the PEFCR A&F \u2013 Introduction to the official EU method for footwear and textiles<\/em> and gave an overview of data collection for PEFCR. She explained the classification of processes into the various LCS stages and the application of specific multipliers for durability and reparability. The PEFCR revision is expected next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Johannes Menges from the PFI provided further insight by giving an overview of the data relevant to the PEF in shoe production. He explained both the significance of the results collected and the underlying reasons for their collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The experts from the ISC department made a special contribution by demonstrating the creation of a shoe using practical examples, thereby illustrating the connection between theory and industrial reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PFI is delighted to have provided a platform for professional exchange with its premises and expertise. The lively discussion and strong response to the content underline the relevance of the topic for the entire industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
