Senate of the Economy meets at PFI Pirmasens

On Friday, 22 November 2024, the presence meeting of the Energy Commission of the Senate of Economy took place at the Test and Research Institute Pirmasens e.V.

‘As an appointed senator, it is a particular pleasure for me to welcome the members of the Senate Energy Commission to PFI today. We have the unique opportunity to present our innovative research projects and the close cooperation with the city of Pirmasens. Such face-to-face meetings are crucial drivers for the future of energy and environmental research,’ says Institute Director Dr Kerstin Schulte.

Greetings and presentations

Chairman of the Commission Peter Krumhoff opened the event and the Mayor of Pirmasens, Michael Maas, gave a welcome address to the participants. He took the opportunity to introduce the city and explain the endeavours to expand the energy park. Benjamin Pacan, Head of the Research Facilities Department at PFI, and Dr Thomas Fiehn, Head of Analytics in the Biotechnology Division, then presented the research activities and facilities of the Pirmasens Winzeln Energy Park and the phosphorus recovery plant at the Felsalbe wastewater treatment plant to the members of the commission.

Tour of the facilities

Despite the wintry weather, the participants ventured on an excursion to the energy park and the wastewater treatment plant following the theoretical presentations. The tour ended in the PFI technical centre, where the technical precursors of the energy park's research facilities could be viewed.

Thanks and recognition

At the end of the event, Uly Köhler, Board Representative for Politics and Communication of the Senate of Economy, presented the management of the institute and the mayor with a special thank you: in addition to a wine from their own vine, a sponsorship for a 25m² rainforest area in Panama was symbolically handed over.
