Enthusiastic young students explored the Test and Research Institute Pirmasens e.V. (PFI) on 25 April 2024 at the national Girl's and Boy's Day. Ten participants were given exciting insights into various professional fields and departments at the institute and gained practical experience in the working day.
Diverse insights into the world of work
After a welcome from Institute Director Dr Kerstin Schulte and an informative company presentation, the day began with a guided tour of the institute. This gave the pupils a comprehensive overview of the many different fields of activity at PFI. The participants then explored different departments in small groups and learnt about various professions. In the International Shoe Competence Centre (ISC), for example, the young people designed and sewed their own pencil cases, while a souvenir in form of an individually engraved coin was created in the Engineering department. The two participants in Marketing and Public Relations documented the day in pictures and words by conducting interviews and taking photos and videos. In administration, one student supported the team with incoming and outgoing goods, while two boys in event coordination gained an insight into the planning and organisation of seminars.
Positive conclusion and valuable experiences
In the feedback session, the pupils were enthusiastic about the wide range of impressions and experiences they had gained on Girl's and Boy's Day at PFI.
"I really enjoyed the day and was able to learn a lot of new things," summarised one participant. "It was great to get a taste of the world of work and try out what I would like to do later. I would like to come back to PFI next year on Girl's Day and gain more experience in the engineering department!"
PFI is delighted with the positive response and sees participation in Girl's and Boy's Day as an important contribution to young people's career guidance. "It is important to us to give young people the opportunity to get to know different professional fields and discover their talents and interests," says Dr Kerstin Schulte. "Girl's and Boy's Day is an excellent opportunity for this."
